My colleague Ge Yu presents an interesting concept over on the DCI Group blog. Are robots the future of video technology?
Our clients increasingly benefit from the power of web video — both recorded and live content. With multiple simultaneous events, however, manpower becomes an issue. Sure, we can outsource the overload, but that racks up additional costs for us and our clients. So we’re always looking for ways to make the process more economical.
Ge suggests that something like WowWee’s Rovio may be the solution … someday. He acknowledges it isn’t the panacea just yet, but there is the promise that it (or something like it) may make quality video more accessible and affordable.
That would certainly be a welcome development. It’s hard to see a robot fully replacing a cameraman since humans bring more to the table than simple videography skills (just ask the Twittering cameraman extraordinaire, Jim Long). But it might do a nice job of getting communications pros 80% of the way there when that’s enough to make a difference.
